Deborah Sizemore is memorialized in Claxton Elementary with the mural pictured above.
Deborah M. Sizemore was a beloved mother, teacher, friend, and companion. Deborah was an active member of the Asheville-area arts community for over 20 years, and received recognition as the Asheville Area Arts Council Teacher of the Year. For 15 years, Deborah served as the Music Specialist and Magnet Theme Coordinator at Claxton Elementary School of Arts & Humanities. Her love of arts, and her love of children, gave Deborah a gift for teaching that touched thousands of students in the Asheville City Schools.
Deborah passed away on March 18, 2005, and her son, Brooks Sizemore, has celebrated her legacy by generously supporting our TAPAAS (Teaching Artist Presenting in Asheville Area Schools) Program.
