Apply for a Grant Or Scholarship
At the heart of every successful student experience is an inspired, passionate, and highly trained teacher. The Asheville City Schools Foundation supports and retains excellent teachers through the grants and scholarships described below. Each year, we provide more than $50,000 in funds directly to teachers and classrooms to implement excellent teaching, inspire new projects and increase student achievement and enthusiasm.
Overview of Granting Opportunities
ACSF Innovation Grants
ACS Foundation Innovation Grants are awarded in amounts ranging from $200 - $5,000 to implement projects that fit in one of these three areas: Innovation, Arts Education, and Closing the Achievement Gap. These grants are funded by generous and committed individuals and business in the community, special events, and grants.
Although the primary applicants of the projects grants must be Asheville City Schools employees, parents, family members and community members are encouraged to partner with teachers and staff in creating these projects.
Deadline: Applicants will be selected once per year. Check back in March 2012 for our new application dates.
Deborah Sizemore Arts Integration Grants
Established to memorialize the life of Deborah Sizemore, these funds support integrated arts at all levels. Deborah Sizemore Arts Integration Grants are awarded each year in the range of $500 - $5,000.
Deadline: Applicants will be selected once per year. Check back in March 2012 for our new application dates.
Micro Grants
These are grants for up to $200 for materials and costs related to bringing a classroom project to life. Projects are chosen with these criteria in mind:
· Increases cultural/multicultural literacy
· Provides a fresh, innovative experience for students
· Impacts the core academic areas
· Impacts many students either this year or on-going
· Impacts under-served students specifically

Progress Energy E-Education and Conservation Grants
Progress Energy E-Education and Conservation Grants fund innovative classroom projects that increase students’ energy knowledge and awareness. School employees may apply on behalf of a classroom, department, or school. Requests may range from $100 - $2,500.
Deadline: September 23, 2011 and January 20, 2012
Parsec Financial’s Math Literacy Grant
These are grants for innovative efforts to increase math achievement by involving families, new hands-on extensions, or project-based curriculum that increases the relevance of math instruction to everyday life. School employees may apply on behalf on behalf of a classroom, department, or school. Requests may range from $200 - $500.

Reading, Riding, Retrofit Green Team Grants
The purpose of this grant is to fund environmental leadership projects at the school level, which can demonstrate environmental benefits - specifically strategies that provide measurable greenhouse gas reductions. Funded projects will be expected to have a community outreach component. This grant opportunity is funded by the Land of Sky Regional Council and Reading, Riding and Retrofit.

TAPAS (Teaching Artists Presenting in Asheville Schools) Grants
These grants bring a trained artist to ACS classrooms for residencies or performances that are designed in partnership with teachers. Please see the catalogue below for a list of the diverse and talented artists for whom these grants apply. Dollar amounts are flexible but generally will not exceed $450 to artists and $200 for materials. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, but will require at least 30 days for notification.
