Asheville City Schools students meet and learn from practicing local poets, dancers, potters, and visual artists through the TAPAS (Teaching Artists Presenting in Asheville Schools) program, a collaboration between the Asheville City Schools Foundation, LEAF in Streets and Schools, and The University of North Carolina, Asheville's Craft Studies program. Artists are trained to tie their particular art form into the North Carolina Standard course of study. They then develop creative lesson plans that reinforce learning and work with classroom teachers to deliver the lessons in the classroom. This year, Asheville City Schools students have learned belly dancing, poetry, multimedia visual arts and music from local artists. For more information, please email info@acsf.org.
