Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Training and Outreach Program

Thank you for your interest in learning about how you can be part of “team help our children succeed.” Each of our volunteers is part of a team including teachers, parents, staff and other volunteers who are dedicated and caring individuals and who believe in the ability of our children to succeed.
We value and appreciate the investment of your time and energy in our children and our schools. We have a wide variety of meaningful volunteer roles available.

Based upon a needs assessment of Asheville City Schools volunteer needs completed in 2010, we are broadening the scope of our Volunteer Training and Outreach Program. There are a wide-variety of meaningful roles for volunteers to fulfill within our schools, and our goal is to help each school build their capacity to recruit and retain these important volunteers. Our Volunteer Training and Outreach Program Director provides training and support to school volunteer coordinators to ensure best practices of volunteer management across the ACS district.

Community outreach is an important aspect of this program; please contact Julia Shuster, VTOP Director, if you want us to speak to your organization about volunteer opportunities and other ways that you can positively impact our students and schools. We believe strong community involvement makes stronger schools.

We also believe in providing our volunteers with the resources they need to be effective. Thus, in addition to the initial volunteer orientation, we offer a wide variety of youth-focused professional development for volunteers throughout the year.

Current volunteer opportunities include:
-Math tutoring
-Literacy coach
-ESL tutor
-Classroom assistant
-EC assistant
-Behind the scenes and one time events
